| In need of additional manufacturing capacity, Carter acquired the Hartford Cycle Works factory on Rosemary Street, right across from the Lake, in 1902. The factory was known as the Lower Mill or Mill #2. Carter was fond of sailing his steam launch on the lake, and he kept it stocked with swans. The mill was later sold to the Tillotson Rubber Company, and is now the site of an apartment building. |
