The old Dwight School on Central Avenue was a two-room schoolhouse, with Grades 1-3 down-stairs, and Grades 4-8 upstairs. This wooden structure was torn down in 1938 to make room for a multi-grade brick school, which remained in use until 1981 when the building was sold to the Charles River ARC. The school was named for Timothy Dwight, who gave school lands to the Town in the early 1700s.
The students below are trying hard to look studious for posterity. The school is not identified, but the large size of the room and the arrangement of the windows suggest one of the two-room schools, Dwight or Harris. |
